Guide

How much does a website cost in 2026?

A plain guide to website pricing: what drives the cost, what the market charges, and how to compare quotes.

8 min read

The short answer

For a small or mid-sized business, a professionally built site of 5–8 pages usually costs $1,500–8,000 from a freelancer and $4,000–18,000 or more from a US or UK agency, according to 2026 pricing guides from Clutch, Pitchsite and Upwork. At Kvant Studio, fixed packages start at €1,490 for a landing page, €3,900 for a business site of up to 8 pages and €7,900 for Signature. Online stores start at €5,900.

The range is wide because “a website” can mean a one-page brochure or a multilingual catalog wired into a warehouse. The price follows the work. Below is what actually moves the number, so you can read any quote, ours included, on equal terms.

What drives the cost of a website

Eight things explain almost all of the difference between a $1,500 site and an $18,000 one. Most quotes don't list them, so ask.

1. Unique page templates, not page count

Design and development are billed for decisions, not for copies. A 20-page site built from three layouts can cost less than an 8-page site where every page is different. When you compare quotes, ask how many unique templates each one includes. Our Launch package is one long landing page, Business covers up to 8 pages, and Signature up to 15.

2. Design: theme, custom or art-directed

A bought theme is the cheapest option, and it looks like it. Thousands of other sites share the layout, and your content has to fit its boxes. Custom design starts from your content and your buyers, and every Kvant package includes it. Art direction goes further: a visual concept, custom imagery and motion that make the brand recognizable at a glance. That is the main difference between our Business and Signature packages.

3. Content: who writes it, and when

Content is the most underestimated cost in a web project and the most common reason projects stall. Someone has to write the pages, choose the photos and approve both. We polish the copy you provide as part of every package. Writing a page from scratch is €120 per page, and professional photography is booked separately. Start collecting content before design begins, and the timeline is much easier to hold.

4. Languages

A second language is more than a translation plugin. Each one needs localized URLs, translated metadata, hreflang tags so Google shows the right version, and its own round of testing. Launch covers 1 language, with each extra one at +€290. Business includes 2 languages, and Signature up to 3.

5. Features and integrations

Every connection to another system adds build and test time: bookings, CRMs, payment providers, ERPs, shipping. For online stores, the platform matters too. Our Commerce package runs on Shopify, from €5,900, with Shopify Payments or Stripe, shipping and taxes set up. Commerce Pro, from €14,900, is a headless Next.js storefront with multi-currency, several languages and custom checkout flows. Web apps start with paid discovery for €490, which is credited against the project.

6. Speed and SEO foundations

A fast site is engineered, not hoped for: image pipelines, font loading, lean JavaScript, structured data, sitemaps. Cheap builds often skip this work, and you pay for it later in lost rankings or an early redesign. We write Lighthouse mobile Performance 95+ at handover into the contract, and every package includes technical SEO.

7. Timeline

Realistic timelines are 7–10 working days for a landing page, 3–4 weeks for a business site, 5–8 weeks for Signature and 5–12 weeks for an online store. Faster is possible with a +25% rush fee, because it means moving other work.

8. What happens after launch

Hosting, security updates, backups and small changes cost money every month, whoever does them. You can run the site on your own Vercel Pro account for about $20 a month, or we host and maintain it on a Care plan from €99 a month. Either way, the domain stays in your name, at roughly €10–40 a year.

Budgeting for an online store

A store has more moving parts than a business site, so it deserves its own budget. Five questions move the price most: how many products you sell, which payment providers you need, how shipping is calculated, whether stock and prices must sync with an ERP or warehouse system, and how many languages and currencies you sell in.

Commerce, from €5,900, covers up to 100 migrated products, Shopify Payments or Stripe, shipping, taxes and product schema. If you need several currencies and languages, custom checkout flows or sub-second product pages, Commerce Pro starts at €14,900. Clean product data matters as much as the platform: titles, variants, photos and descriptions that are ready before the build keep the launch date safe.

What the market charges in 2026

These are survey ranges for a site of 5–8 pages, not quotes. They show where a fair price sits, and why two quotes for “the same site” can differ by a factor of five.

Typical prices for a 5–8 page business website
OptionTypical priceHow the price is set
Freelancer$1,500–8,000Hourly or per job, depends on experience
US or UK agency$4,000–18,000+Per project, includes team and overhead
Kvant Studio, Business€3,900 (≈ $4,520), fixedPublished package with a written scope

Prices in the Balkans are lower. Local surveys put a WordPress site built from a template at €200–700 and an agency site at €900–3,000 or more (happymedia.rs, webant.rs, reload.rs). That is why businesses billed in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia get our regional price list, which starts at €690.

Template, agency or Kvant: which fits

There is no single right answer. Each option is the best choice for someone.

A template or site builder

Low upfront cost and a fast start. You give up a distinct look, and on WordPress you take on the job of keeping the theme and plugins updated. It fits a tight budget, a temporary site or a quick test of a new idea.

An agency

A full team with strategy, content, ads and development under one roof, usually with an account manager between you and the people doing the work. It fits larger organizations that need many disciplines at once and have the budget for them.

Kvant Studio

A family studio from Serbia with a published price list. Custom design, hand-coded Next.js, multilingual SEO, and a direct line to the people who build your site, in the CET time zone. What we don't do: paid ads management and legal texts. If you need those, we are happy to work alongside whoever does.

How to compare quotes

Put each quote next to these seven questions. If a studio can't answer one of them in writing, that is an answer too.

  1. Is the price fixed, and what exactly is in scope: pages, templates, languages, integrations?
  2. Who owns the domain, the code and the design files after the final payment?
  3. Is the launch date in the contract, and what happens if it slips?
  4. What speed is guaranteed, and how is it measured? Ask for a Lighthouse mobile score, not an adjective.
  5. How many revision rounds are included, and what does extra work cost per hour?
  6. What does the first year cost in total, with hosting, maintenance and third-party fees?
  7. Who will you actually talk to while the site is being built?

What the first year really costs

Take our Business package. The build is €3,900 and includes the first month of Care Essential. Eleven more months at €99 add €1,089. With the domain at roughly €10–40, the first year comes to about €4,989 plus the domain, excluding VAT.

From the second year you pay only for what you keep: Care Essential at €1,188 a year, or your own Vercel Pro account at about $20 a month if you would rather run the site yourself. There is no license fee and no lock-in.

Costs that don't show up in the quote

The build is only part of the bill. These are the costs that most often surprise people in the first two years, whoever builds the site.

  • Theme and plugin licenses. Premium WordPress themes and plugins usually renew every year. A site built on ten of them has ten renewals to track.
  • Hosting upgrades. Cheap shared hosting is fine until traffic grows or the site slows down. Moving later costs time and money.
  • Changes after sign-off. Once a design is approved, new ideas are billed by the hour. With us, that is €55/h.
  • Third-party fees. Payment processors, the Shopify plan, email hosting, premium fonts and stock photos are paid to other companies, not to the studio.
  • A site you can't edit. If every text change needs a developer, small updates turn into invoices. Business and higher packages include a CMS, so you edit content yourself.

How to get the most from a fixed price

  • Decide on languages up front. Adding a language after launch means another round of URLs, metadata and testing.
  • Collect content early. Text and photos that arrive late push the launch date.
  • Send feedback as one list per round. Two revision rounds go much further when everyone's comments arrive together.
  • Name one decision-maker. Sites move fastest when one person can approve design and copy.

Why we publish our prices

Most studios quote on request. We publish fixed prices because it saves both sides a round of guessing, and because a fixed price forces us to scope the work carefully before we start. Every quote is fixed before work begins, stays valid for 30 days and lists what is not included. If your project doesn't fit a package, we tell you, and quote it as a custom project on the same terms.

FAQ

Pricing questions, answered.

How much does a website cost with Kvant Studio?

Fixed packages start at €1,490 for a landing page, €3,900 for a business site of up to 8 pages, and €7,900 for a premium Signature site. Online stores start at €5,900. Businesses in the Balkans and Croatia get our regional price list, because prices follow local markets. Every quote is fixed before we start.

How long does it take?

A landing page takes 7–10 working days. A business site takes 3–4 weeks, Signature 5–8 weeks, and online stores 5–12 weeks. The launch date is written into the contract. If we miss it through our fault, you get a credit of 5% per week.

What does the process look like?

  1. Brief: a short form or email, plus a free 30-minute video call.
  2. Proposal: a fixed-price proposal within 2 workdays.
  3. Design in Figma, with 2 revision rounds.
  4. Build on a private preview link you can click through.
  5. Launch, training and handover.
  6. Care: optional monthly plans.

How do payments work?

Projects under €2,000 are paid 50% at the start and 50% before launch. Larger projects are paid in 3–4 milestones tied to design approval and launch. We invoice in EUR, and there are no hidden fees.

Who owns the website, code and domain?

You do. The domain is registered in your name from day one. After the final payment, the code repository, design files and content are all yours. There is no lock-in: host it on your own account or with us.

Is SEO included? Can you get me to #1 on Google?

Every package includes technical SEO:

  • fast Core Web Vitals
  • schema
  • sitemaps
  • hreflang for multilingual sites
  • clean metadata

Nobody can honestly guarantee #1. We guarantee the foundation, and on SEO plans we deliver the monthly work and reports that move rankings.

Where is my site hosted and what does it cost monthly?

Sites run on Vercel's global edge network. You can use your own Vercel Pro account (about $20/month), or we host and maintain the site on a Care plan from €99/month. That plan includes backups, updates and monitoring.

Can I edit the content myself? Why not WordPress?

Yes. Business and higher packages include Sanity, a visual CMS, so you can edit text, images and blog posts yourself. We use Next.js instead of WordPress because the sites load faster, have no plugins to break or patch, and rank better on speed.

Not sure which package fits?

Send a few lines about your project. We reply within 24 hours on workdays (Mon–Fri, CET), and send a fixed-price proposal within 2 workdays of our call.
